Since the Fall of 2012 I've been getting quite an education concerning the excuses people make for entering Burial Unknowns where disposition of the remains is unknown and unlikely to ever be known. THEY DO NOT BELONG HERE ON FIND A GRAVE. PERIOD! EXCLAMATION POINT! It's called Find A Grave for a reason. Since then I no longer make transfers to people with lots of BUs, because of the problems that would result when known burials are linked with the Unknowns, and the Unknowns eventually get deleted. In April 2013 I came up with a new term to describe the worst offenders: LURKERS! They add hundreds of memorials from obituaries, and leave them lurking as BUs. Then, when someone finds and legitimately makes a memorial IN THE CORRECT CEMETERY, the Lurkers "move" theirs (by editing the burial info) and then ask/tell the other person to delete their duplicate.
But the vast majority--probably over 95%--of Find A Grave Contributors are helpful folks who woudn't even think of bending any of the rules, much less breaking them. Sadly, the extremely small minority who insist on doing whatever they feel like doing are no doubt causing most of the problems for the Admins to have to work out.
A big "Thank You" goes out to everyone who sends any info and links for the memorials I've added. I regret that I cannot thank each of you individually.
I got interested in Family History in 2007, and in 2008 and 2009 visited hundreds of my "dead relatives", as my wife so descriptively put it. (I did meet many live ones, too.) Most of the graves I visited were close relatives of my great-grandparents and one great-great-grandmother: their siblings, aunts and grand-aunts, uncles and grand-uncles, and first and second cousins.
