Murder Victim. Earning his millions mining in Nevada, Jacob was divorced from his wife Sarah and moved into a mansion in Los Angeles by 1919. By late 1920 he was uncovered, dead after a four month search that found him resting in a sealed box under mounds of dirt in the basement of his mansion. After searching the mansion and discovering letters in a room, his killer was narrowed down to one of three women in his life. By February of 1921 his killer Louise Peete was convicted of first degree murder. Sentenced to life in prison for the death of Jacob, she would get out 18 years later to kill again, this time however, she would die in the gas chamber on April 11, 1947. She was one of only four women executed in the California gas chamber. All of Jacob's wealth that Louise had killed him for after his refusal to marry her would be handed over to his daughter Frances.
