WHEELER - Lou Dean Douthit, 88, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church in Wheeler with the Rev. Thomas Peppers of Aletheia Temple Pentecostal of Midwest City, officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home.
Lou Dean was born Jan. 5, 1922, in Mobeetie to Elmer and LeLand Luttrell. Her family lived in Pampa for a period of time, then moved to Briscoe, where she attended school and graduated in 1939.
She married Kenneth "K.D." Douthit on July 15, 1939. They made their home in Briscoe. They purchased the Farmers Cash Store in 1958, and ran it until 1973.
Lou Dean was the postmaster in Briscoe and later took over the mail route in Briscoe, until it consolidated with the Miami route. She then transferred to Quanah, where she carried the mail until 1986, when she transferred back to Briscoe to be the postmaster again. She retired from the Postal Service in November 1990.
Lou Dean was a member of the Briscoe Community Church and the Canasta Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Paul and Pete Luttrell, her husband of 54 years, K.D.; a daughter, Sherry Bradshaw; and a granddaughter, Tressa Perry.
Survivors include three daughters, Peggy North and Deb Kinnaman and husband Bob, all of Briscoe, and Billie Stuckey and husband Donald of Roaring Springs; a sister-in-law, Charlene Luttrell of Baton Rouge, La., eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be to Tressa Perry Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of First State Bank of Mobeetie, P.O. Box 5, Mobeetie, TX 79061, or P.O. Box 527, Wheeler, TX 79096.
