Gerald Hertzberg, age 76, of Berlin, died unexpectedly at his home.

He was born April 16, 1940, in Milwaukee, the son of Clarence and Lenore Gustman Hertzberg. Jerry was a 1958 graduate of Berlin High School.

Jerry started his work career at the ladder factory in the basement of the Omro Theatre. He worked for Realist in Berlin and in 1962 he enlisted in the U.S. Army Intelligence Security Agency, where he served for 3 years. In October of 1965, Jerry started work for WI Telephone Company in Berlin where he was a Central Office Technician. He worked for the phone company until the time of his retirement. Jerry was a stamp collector, enjoyed gardening, liked to bowl and go to stock car races. He was a faithful member of Borth United Methodist Church, serving as a past Trustee, usher for many years and a member of the Administrative Board.

He is survived by his nieces, Peggy O'Malley, Kathy (Don) Tolisano and Kimberly Shepherd; cousins, Barbara Hubbard, Sandra (Robert) Dvorak and David Vogel; brother-in-law, James Smith; his dear friend Caroline Hertzberg; and his church family at Borth UMC. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Beatrice Smith; and aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Borth United Methodist Church, with Rev. George Groves officiating. Interment will be in Borth Cemetery.
