Mr. John Raymond Shannon, of Ruby, passed away at the age of 78 years 1 month and 0 days on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at McLaren Port Huron Hospital.

John, the son of the late William and Gladys (Pembleton) Shannon, was born in Port Huron, June 27, 1938.

On June 29, 1957, John was united in marriage with Miss Beverly Cope in Emmett Township at the home of the bride’s parents.

John served his country with the United States Army in Germany from 1957 to 1959.

John had attended Ruby United Methodist Church and was attending Cole United Methodist Church, Brockway Township.

He grew up on a farm in Greenwood Township and attended Yale High School.

After his service in the Army, John worked 29 years with the St. Clair County Road Commission as a truck driver and road grader, during which he worked part time for 32 years as a propane gas delivery driver before his retirement in 1995.

He was a 45-year member of the Ruby Lions Club, helped start the Clyde Township Fire Department and was Constable of Clyde Township for a few years.

John enjoyed collecting model John Deere tractors and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2016, with 10:00 a.m. visiting.

Burial will be in Ruby Cemetery, Clyde Township.
