Alma was optimistic about life and people to the end, as she returned to her Heavenly Father on May 23, 2015 at the age of 92. She will be greatly missed!

She was born June 16, 1922 at home in Ogden, Utah to Archie Clinton Stokes and Florence Shore Stokes.

In 1938 at age 16 she met Dennis G. Hadlock in Sunset, Utah. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on May 17, 1939. They moved to a 2 ½ acre farm in Sunset and had seven children, four boys and three girls. In 1960 they divorced, at which time she moved to Ogden with her children. She married Dean Winegar. They were later divorced. She married B. Maurice Smith on November 26, 1976 in the Salt Lake Temple and moved to Bountiful, Utah in 1981. Maurice passed away on March 5, 2009 after an extended illness.

Alma attended Weber College, received a Bachelor’s Degree in English, and taught Elementary and Jr. High School for 20 years.

She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she was active in genealogy research. She and Maurice served a mission in Germany from 1992 to 1993. They enjoyed serving in the Bountiful Temple for nine years.

Alma had many interests and hobbies, including sewing, knitting, cooking for all occasions, art, painting, and gardening and canning. She loved the Holidays, especially Christmas and all the preparations. Thanksgiving was a wonderful time with an abundance of delicious food and goodies. She loved life and serving others. She was generous, and kind. She was happy in life, and found joy in the small and simple things.

She is survived by her children: Brent (Connie), Dion, Karen Seaman (John), Stephen, Ann Horan (Jeff) and Christine Jenne (Stan); 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, siblings Stravel, Carl, Arch Jr. and Rita, and son Dean Hadlock.

Interment Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, Ogden, Utah.
