William Zoll, one of Warrensburg's most highly respected and aged citizens, passed from this life to eternal rest at 9:30 o'clock Saturday night, September 19, at his home on East Broad street, after a lingering illness that extended over two years or more.
Mr Zoll had reached the ripe old age of 93 years. For the past two months he had been confined to his bed and his condition became more serious each day until the Grim Reaper came and gathered the ripened grain.
William Zoll was born in Union, Monroe county, West Virginia, December 17th, 1815. In 1848 he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah M Alderson. Nine years later he came to Missouri and settled at Lexington and in 1858 moved to Warrensburg where he had ever since made his home. Mrs Zoll died in April 1900. Of this union ten children were born, eight of whom survive him as follows: Chas Zoll, Sedalia; George A Zoll, St Louis; Frank Zoll, Marquette, Neb, Robt L Zoll, Warrensburg, Mrs Harvey Russell, Mrs S M Calloway, Waverly, Mo, Mrs C D Briggs, Atchison, Kansas, Mrs Geo W Doyle, Albany, Mo.
Mr Zoll followed the saddlery business in early life but later engaged in the nursery business at the Zoll place at the east end of Broad street. He was a member of the Presbyterian church of which he had been an elder for about forty-eight years. It was through his thrift and influence in religious work that the brick church house at the corner of Market and Miller streets was built in 1873. He wen to his grave without the knowledge of the union of the two Presbyterian churches. He was a member of the Masonic order.
The funeral services were held Monday morning at 10 o'clock at the Presbyterian church, corner of Miller and Market street, conducted by Rev B E Wallace, pastor, and assisted by the Masonic fraternity of this city...
