Dr. Wayne Martin Grim, 84, passed away on August 28, 2014 at Chandler Hall Hospice Facility in Newtown.
Wayne was born in York, on April 12, 1930, to Elizabeth Clarkson and Oreb Elmore Grim.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Norma Jean (Bricker) Grim; his daughters, Sharon Graham (Gregg); Elizabeth Kershaw (Jamie); and Jennifer Taylor (Calvin). He will be missed by his six grandchildren, Michael Wayne Graham, Geremy Ryan Graham, Devon Clarkson Graham, Hannah Elizabeth Kershaw, Jared Martin Kershaw, and Trey Michael Taylor. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Wayne Grim, in 1980.
Wayne lived in Bucks County for 53 years. He was an avid sports fan, especially basketball, with a special enthusiasm for the University of Michigan sports teams. He was a devoted father who loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. Wayne was educated in the York school system and graduated from William Penn Senior High School in 1948. It was there he met Norma Jean Bricker and they were married on August 30, 1952. He attended York Junior College for one year where he played basketball on an athletic scholarship. From 1949 to 1954, he attended the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science receiving his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees. In 1954, he was employed by Merck & Co., Inc. in Rahway, NJ. In 1956, Wayne returned to school at the University of Michigan and received his PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 1959. He then returned to Merck at the North Wales location. In 1967, he was transferred for a year to the Merck facility in Hoddesdon, England. It was a wonderful experience as the family lived in England and traveled around Europe in 1968. He returned to the U.S. as Director of Pharmaceutical Research in July 1968. After 25 years with Merck, he resigned as a Senior Director to become Director of Product Development with Rorer Group, Inc. After ten years there, he retired as a Vice President. Wayne had a very productive 35 year career with Merck and Rorer and was responsible for the development of more than 200 new human health products. He had articles printed in several technical and research publications and was proud to be the recipient of many patents. Wayne retired in 1988 to form his own consulting company, which he maintained until 1998. He consulted with many major pharmaceutical companies as well as several start-up companies. He was on the Board of the Medical College of South Carolina, as well as an Adjunct Professor at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. He received academic and athletic scholarships during the educational phase of his life. He was a member of Rho Chi Honor Society, Phi Lambda Upsilon Honor Society, the American Pharmaceutical Association, the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, the New York Academy of Science and the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education. A memorial service will be held at Shelly Funeral Home, 1460 Easton Road, Warrington, PA 18976, on Friday, September 5, 2014, from 2 to 4 p.m. The family will greet friends and family at 2 p.m. At 3 p.m. we will celebrate Wayne's life with some shared stories and memories from attendees. All are invited to a gathering at the close of the service at 4 p.m. at Villa Barolo, just down the street at 1373 Easton Road.
