Fred McDowell, age 76, of Burlington and formerly of Wapello, died Wednesday morning, November 18, 2015, at the Burlington Care Center. The son of Charles and Bertha Benson McDowell, he was born on October 10, 1939 in Iowa City.
Fred attended Wapello schools. He worked at the Canning Factory in Wapello and then as a Bookkeeper for the Salvation Army for 20 years. He later helped mow grass and care for cemeteries around Wapello. He enjoyed animals and collecting stamps.
Fred was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. His church family was very important to him.
A graveside service will be held at the Wapello Cemetery at 3:30 PM on Thursday (today) at the Wapello Cemetery officiated by Bishop Dell Hammond.
