Sarah E. Hudson was born in Tennessee, September 5, 1854, and departed this life at her home northwest of Aline July 23, 1927; aged 72 years, 10 months and 18 days. At the age of seven years she moved with her parents to Illinois where she grew to young womanhood and was united in marriage to William H. Smith on January 28, 1874. To this union five children were born: Cora Duel, Otis H. Smith, Roy Smith, Minnie Westfal and Anna Jeffries. They came to Oklahoma at the opening of the Cherokee Strip in 1893 and this has since been their home. Her husband and eldest daughter Cora Duel preceeded her in death a number of years ago. She was christened and raised in the Presbyterian faith. She was united in marriage to L. C. Benefield on September 29, 1909 and has been a faithful wife and a kind loving mother. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, two sons, Otis H. and Roy O. Carmen, two daughters, Marie E. of Oregon and Anna of Carmen one sister, Jennie Sconce, seventeen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a host of other relatives. Funeral services were conducted on July 25 by Rev. M. C. Lakey and the body was laid to rest in the Eagle Chief Cemetery.
