the Rev. C. Bernard Alford at
Evergreen Cemetery, Lake
George, took place after a Mass
of Christian Burial at St. Mary's
Church, Hudson. He died Aug.
24.
Born in Au Sable Forks the son
of Rev. Charles Burdick Alford
and Margaret Burton of Lake
George, he was a graduate of
Chester High School and Hobart
College. Like his father he
became an Episcopalian priest.
Later he converted to Roman
Catholicism. He was sent to
Rome, Italy to study cannon law
at the Gregorian University.
After receiving his doctorate in
canon law, he returned to the
Albany diocese to serve as an
auditor, and prosynodal and
synodal judge of the Marriage
Tribunal.
His parish assignments included
Our Lady of Good Counsel,
Roxbury; St. Peters, Stillwater;
St. Joseph's, Troy; St. Margaret
Mary's, Albany.
He was chaplain at St.
Catherine's Infant Home and
Brady Hospital from 1949 to
1955. In 1955 he was named
pastor of Resurrection, Germ
an town.
Father Alford is survived by
several brothers, George of
Georgia, Scott of Connecticut,
David of Middleburgh, Richard
of Chatham and Charles E.,
Delmar. There are also a
number of cousins in Chestertown,
Richmond, Va. as well as
nieces and nephews.
