Sherman T. Roberts, 72, 1512 Dodds Street, died at 9:46 am Friday, April 20, 1984 in the emergency room at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was a retired building contractor.
Mr. Roberts was born in Waltonville, Jefferson County on April 12, 1912 the son of James Monroe and Laura (Bravard) Roberts. On August 25, 1941, in Jackson, MO., he married Thelma Jones, who survives.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Tuesday at the Myers-Baril Chapel with the Rev. W.C. "Buss" Hart officiating. Burial will follow in South Hickory Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 pm Monday at the funeral chapel.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Recil and Lonny Roberts of Tucson, AZ., three daughters, Sue Roberts of Tucson, AZ., Betty Keele and Jane Hart both of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren, Jim Sammons, USAF, stationed at Peterson AFB, Colorado; Kelly Sammons, Tara Keele, Randi Roberts and Kacy and Ryan Hart all of Mt. Vernon. Also surviving are two brothers; Clyde and Gail Roberts of Mt. Vernon, and three sisters; Martha Masters, Letha Pickett and Opal Graham all of Mt. Vernon.
Mr. Roberts was a member of the Casey Avenue Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant twin grandsons; Anthony and Paul Roberts, four brothers; Lawrence (Ned), Wayman, Albert (Redhorse), and Alva Roberts; and one sister, Lena Humphrey; two half-sisters; Levina King and Lou Etta Rogers; a half-brother Bill King and a son-in-law Gerald Keele.
