William Albert Hatt was born on 13 May 1849 in Fountain County, Indiana, to Joseph Franklin Hatt and Cynthia Ann McKinsey Hatt. He married Martha Ann Braden on 5 January 1871 in Parke County, Indiana and one daughter was born. Ida Jane Hatt was probably raised by her grandparents after the death of her mother in 1875. William Albert and Martha Ann Braden Hatt were my great-great-grandparents and their daughter Ida Jane Hatt Stevens was my great-grandmother.

William married Susannah Hollingsworth on 22 June 1879 in Vermillion County, Indiana and there were four children born of this union. The children were Herbert Wright, Prince Albert, Burton "Bertie" Monroe and Cynthia Ethel (Lynn and Pyle).

This family lived in Vermillion County, Indiana for many years and then moved to Kokomo, Howard County, Indiana where William died on 30 June 1923. He was listed as a diabetic on his death certificate. This illness could account for the fact that he was the only child who survived by 1898. He had two sisters and a brother that died early in their lives and one sister who drowned.
