Elizabeth Walters grew up in Wilmot, Ontario, Canada the fifth youngest of a large family of twelve children born to Regina nee Meyer and Aloysius Walter. Her siblings were: Bernard, John, Catherine, Anna , Joseph, Marianna (Mary) Regina, Mattheius, Aloysius (Alois), Theresia, and Caroline.

Her 1st marriage was to Francis Frederick Kirstine "Fred" on the 3rd of February 1880 and they settled into the pioneer family homestead on Lot 35, Concession 2, South Line Brant, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada that Fred inherited upon his father's death in May 1880.

Fred's sister Theresia Kirstine had married Elizabeth's oldest sibling Bernard making the Walter's and Kirstine families very close.

Elizabeth and Fred Kirstine's two children, the first of Elizabeth's five children, were born at the Kirstine family homestead in Bruce County, Canada:
Albert Kirstine 1881-1955 who had fourteen children.
Caroline Kirstine born 1883-1904 who passed away days before her 21st birthday.

Elizabeth's husband Frederick Kirstine passed away at the early age of 37 in January 1888. Elizabeth's sister who was living in Nebraska, USA, Mary Walter Baechler died on the 1st of May 1889. Elizabeth married her sister Mary's widow, Henry Baechler on the 22nd of October 1889 and moved to Nebraska to take care of all of the children. Elizabeth Walter's marriage to Henry would be his 3rd marriage.

Henry Baechler 1837-1915 considered himself to be of French origins and was from the Alsace Lorraine region of Germany. He farmed land in South Easthope near Statford in Ontario, Canada, and married Elizabeth Boehmer 1834-1868 of Wilmot, Ontario, Canada, on the 31st of December 1859. Their four children were born in Canada, where his first wife Elizabeth Boehmer is buried:

It was during Henry's second marriage to Marianna "Mary" Walter 1850-1889 from Wilmot, Ontario, Canada, the sister of Henry's third wife Elizabeth Walter, that Henry and the family moved to Scribner, Nebraska, USA around 1879. Henry and Mary had seven children:
