Maude was born in 1889 to George and Sarah Ballard. She had five brothers and three sisters. She married Charles Ridenour in 1907. She was the mother of three children.

Maude died tragically in a house fire that was accidentally started by a king heater stove. Ten people died in the house fire including her father, all three of her children, and relatives including four other children. Maude's husband was the only survivor from the fire.

There is a memorial erected in Chelsea Cemetery for all the victims of the fire.
