Throughout his life, Delmar worked in a number of different jobs. During the depression, Delmar worked with his father as a furniture mover for $0.15 a day. Following this, he worked as a meat delivery man, until he was injured falling from the truck. This injury opened the door for a new career, selling prefab houses--which he did until he retired.
Delmar passed away on September 4, 1979 in Sherwood, Oregon. He was buried at Garden of the Last Supper at Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland on September 7, 1979. His memorial service was held at St. Francis Catholic Church. His second wife, Pauline, was buried next to him. Their shared headstone reads "Together Forever."
